Isight Is Not Working On Oovoo

Debian GNU / Linux-up (II)

Hello friends.

This time, let the second part of the installation process and configuration of the Debian GNU / Linux that we had installed in its basic expression. We completed the installation process, and we had already started with our brand new system.

When we first meet, there may be disappointment in us. You may see it aesthetically ugly, scrawny and with few features as we try to do some things. This is normal, we need to make an important optimization of the entire system. Remember that we will make it truly functional.

First, to start with something mild. The reader will find that by opening the file browser (either by opening the home page or any other folder with the graphical file browser), each time you click in a folder, the browser window does not change, but opens a new one. This is because it is the usual standard gnome settings (at least in the version we have). But it can be easily modified. We went in: Applications - System Tools - Configuration Editor. Here we Nautilus (in apps), and in him Preferences. Check the box at the end of the line that says "Always_use_browser" (the first in the preferences). Nautilus windows closed we open, and from there we will open updated, as is most common for home users.

Secondly, we also soft things. Let's see how we can change the wallpaper and the appearance of windows. If you click on the desk with the right, give us the option to "Change Desktop Background." Here we have it all: wallpapers, themes to decorate a window or otherwise, different themes for the icons ... just messing around until it is one way we like better. Do not forget that also allows us to use as backgrounds and other images that we have, on the "add".

And now we go with themes "deep" and important. I wanted to do first this, because is simpler, gives confidence and visually well our system is more than our taste, so we feel more comfortable with it.

First, we need to change and expand our repositories. As you probably already discussed, the repositories are the "sources" we "nurture" when you install programs on our system. In the first place, Debian offers only the option selected primary or "main". This is because they want to avoid potential conflicts of loopholes as to the usability of some programs, in addition to enabling the free software on which they are not. If we see that we may want to use some of those programs not offered by default Debian-enable more options in the repositories, the sections "contrib" and "non-free media repository also. These are not directly or officially supported by Debian, but correspond more to the user community.

also activate the backports repository. As you may remember that I already mentioned, for many people to use Debian is inconvenient to use because regarded as old versions of many programs. To remedy to some extent this fact, since the backports going to have much newer versions of many programs that have been adapted especially for the stable distribution. From here we can have more current versions of, say, OpenOffice or Firefox browser (Iceweasel in Debian).

So we start the job. Open a terminal, which is found in
Applications - Accessories - Terminal. If we are going to have to use it with some frequency, we can, before opening it, press it in the right click menu, and click "add this launcher to panel." In this way, and will available in the top panel to open it since then with one click from there. This, of course, we can do with all the applications to see who will be in common use, with what we earn considerably in convenience and speed of access to the most common programs.

Once we open the terminal: fear out! No bites, no nothing. Only to be used consciously and carefully what you type. Recalling that is case-sensitive, this is important.
In the beginning, we recognized as the regular user who we are. For what we do now (to modify the repositories) have to be root or administrator. So we have to use a command to change the user. This command is "su" followed by the user who want to become (do not put anything to switch to superuser or root). So you type

its

followed by the Enter key. We ask password. That password is asking us to root. Do not worry if when we put the cursor does not move or write anything. It's okay, that's normal! Do not write anything, not even hidden characters, not to give clues or even how many characters are. If we have correctly identified, the last character that puts the terminal is now a #

We now administrator. This is important because it almost always will have to be administrator to do it this way.
Now edit the contents of which are the repositories by typing:

gedit / etc / apt / sources.list

Following the enter key. We will in a window in a text editor the file contents. We'll have to let something like this:

# # deb cdrom: [Debian GNU / Linux 5.0.3 _Lenny_ - Official i386 CD Binary-1 $ 2,009,090

# deb cdrom: [Debian GNU / Linux 5.0.3 _Lenny_ - Official i386 CD Binary-1 $ 20,090,905

http://ftp.fr.debian.org/debian/ deb lenny main contrib non-free
http://ftp deb-src. fr.debian.org / debian / lenny main contrib non-free deb

http://security.debian.org/ lenny / updates main contrib non-free deb-src
http://security.debian . org / lenny / updates main contrib non-free deb

http://volatile.debian.org/debian-volatile lenny / volatile main contrib
deb-src http://volatile.debian.org/debian-volatile lenny / volatile contrib main deb

http://www.debian-multimedia.org lenny main non-free deb

http://www.backports.org/debian lenny-backports main contrib non-free

We will gradually see to better understand what we do and why.

Most lines are already laid. Those beginning with a "#" means they are comments, are lines that are not taken into account. Probably have activated the first to refer to CDs (cdrom). We turn to turn in comments, adding that symbol "#" at the beginning of the line, because now we "fed" just from the internet.
After the first, we see that some start with http deb. These first two are the main, which supplies most of the content. We see that in our system end up in main. We add the words "contrib" and "non-free." And do not worry about that instead of "ftp.fr" we put "ftp.us", "ftp.fi", or something similar, only refers to the country in which the server is to take the information . The

lines that speak of "security" are just that; security updates that may arise. Also completed, as shown, with "contrib" and "non-free."

Those who speak of "volatile" are repositories of programs that can have very frequent updates. The just completed as directed.

Here comes the multimedia repository. We put it as follows, because it tell us the website of the Debian Multimedia Project in http://www.debian-multimedia.org

Finally, is the line of backports. Also because we are as we indicated from their website: http://www.backports.org

Once you've done this, proceed to save your changes and close the document. We've done more complicated! Now everything is more simple.

We must make our system to read these new sources of information about the packages and programs available. To this end, we return to the console where we were as administrators, and type:

aptitude update followed by Enter. The system begins to read like crazy information, and reviews that can be updated. This may cost some time, depending on your internet connection. Now we can install what can make us lack.
To avoid to give us confusing messages about what we are installing packages from untrusted sources, we will make our system recognizes as its own, official repositories good and we've added, specifically referring to me and the media repository of backports. To this end we installed the "keys" or "keyring" for each one found on the packages installed below

aptitude install debian-multimedia-keyring debian-backports-keyring

followed by Enter.
Here we will ask you to confirm if you really want to do that. This is to prevent not install things that come from unknown sources, which may seek to settle. He confirmed, even if you ask us several times.

Once done, proceed to reboot. We can do it from the menu
System - Shutdown, or from the Administrator Console we still have open, typing the following:

shutdown-r now

followed by a return. Here the system will reboot.

As I see it is very extensive, we will continue in another new release. Now we have installed a basic system, we have given a graphical way nicer and more to our liking, and have expanded the repositories to the needs and regular home users can take, adding opportunities especially in the field of multimedia, drivers or drivers that we need, as well as newer versions of some commonly used programs.

install Next time I understand that these packages are commonly used for a home user. Take care and practice with your new Debian. Remember that there are a lot of information available online that can be useful to you, but Dad always priority that you can find on the official website of Debian (also very useful forum Esdebian - Hispanic Community Debian users).

Regards and until next time. Good

Orange Water From Tap

The artistic streak

again.

This time I will tell you how he was yesterday afternoon at home with plenty to do, but not knowing where to start. Yes, I guess it's a common situation in which many times at the end was just doing what was least needed.

But, you know what? I think sometimes you have to claim just that. We do too many things necessary, desirable or even important, and we risk not to express or to bed or out of that artistic expression in all of us.

So I'm not sure if yesterday was an escape from reality and of duty, or was an outburst of artistic expression, or a little of everything, but I started to film playing a beautiful song with the piano. My knowledge

piano are quite simple, and audiovisual as well. But at least I think so the result gives a sense of authenticity. The arrangement of the song is very basic, and without sheet music, I got it through trial and testing, and finally I thought it was acceptable that way.

Here 's the result, I've put it on youtube song

A rise of narcissism in the mood? A "kit-kat" among so many things important? Any necessary pipeline? Any irresponsible waste of time? A little bit of everything? Is it the end all has room? A small artistic disaster? Who knows. You can judge yourself. But nobody can argue that I was really excited to upload this video and share it with you.

Greetings and see you at the next.
